A.M.

The tile fall in F-G 92-95 continued to be cleared to an approximate depth of 45 cm. (There are many different levels within the fall- all depth measurements are therefore averages.) Photographs were taken. One box of pottery and bone was recovered.

The excavation to floor level in H98, begun yesterday, was completed and an extension into G98 was begun. Approximately 1/4 cassetta of tile and 1/2 box pottery were recovered. The rocks discovered and cleared yesterday along the western edge of H 98 were photographed and removed.

Continuation of owrk cleaning the stump in H 91-92 recealed that the pan tile noted yesterdyay indeed preserves a full width (52 cm.). Smaller, loose pieces of the tile were marked and removed, bu the main pieces of tile had not been loosened from dirt and the stump at midday. Overlying tiles and soil will be removed and the pan tile lifted as soon as possible. Photographs were taken.

In addition, photos were taken of the rock pack in F-G 95-96.

P.M.

Additional excavation of the full-width pan tile imbedded in the stump in H 91-92 revealed that one of the overlying tiles- cover-is also preserving full width. In the area around these tiles were found an unusual handle and a large lump of bronze (finds 7 & 8). Between the stump and the major portion of tile fall, in H 92, was noticed another pan tile apparently preserving full width.

The area of the tile fall (west end) was cleared. Small, worn pieces of pottery and several pieces of bone were occasionally found.

The cut to floor level in meter 98 was continued to the north. At the end of the day, F98 was at approximately 10 cm, G 98 was at approximately 30 cm, and H98 was at floor level. A very tall and thick flange piece, possibly sima, was found in G98 (find #10). While there are no scars indicating broken-off attachments expected on a sima, there are parallel horizontal lines on the back of the piece.

The rock pack in F-G 95 was cleared to a depth of approximately 50 cm. This was done to help clear up stratigraphy and to prepare for a future section through the area. The actual rocks are small and spaced far aparat, but are numerous. There were no finds. Soil at this depth is dark brown with much carbon, although pockets of yellow clay can be seen at the north wall.
