AM
Work began this morning with the aim of lowering locus 5 to the level of locus 7 in the south of the trench. Soil in Locus 5 is yellow. In the northern meter of the trench. It is partly made up of decaying rock. Some material is being recovered in the southern meter of locus 5 .
After discussion with the site director, it was decided to do a sounding of the northern 2 meters (2m X 4m) of the trench. The soil in locus 5 is a yellowish brown color. A new locus was declared for locus 5. It is now Locus 8 . (see page 101)

We began the sounding with a pick pass. We will continue excavating using a large pick and shovels. We will not sieve.
PM
We continued work in Locus 8 using Pick and shovel. The work progressed smoothly. We found very few artifacts. We did find a few shards of pottery in the area of some darker (brown) soil than the surrounding soil. There were 2 such darker areas in the southern meter of Locus 8 . We will continue to monitor the areas.
