CB-25
A 3x4 meter area was cleared of brush and gridded using the cardinal points of the compass. The location of this trench is south of the cava -- in between Piano del Tesoro and Poggio Aguzzo. A previous attempt to excavate at a site literally above the cava (CB-24) proved fruitless. Dry sandy soil, yellowish in color, and full of pebbles was immediately encountered. CB-25 was then located across the road that leads to Aguzzo and slightly east of CB-24.
The area of CB-25 lies directly in an old road. As a result, parts of the area are level and flat while others are higher. North to south coordinates are alphabetical while west to east are numerical. Top soil in A/3-4 and B/4 was removed to a depth of roughly 10-15 cm. These meters represent
A raised part of the area and with topsoil now removed, are almost on a plane with the rest of the area. Soil is brown, rich, and full of small stones. Little of anything was found. A small tubular handle and one body fragment made up our pottery. A few pieces of badly worn terracotta were found.
