Description | Locus 8 was a 1-meter by 1.2-meter sounding that was opened to explore the soil beneath the rock features discovered across the entirety of the trench. This sounding was located in the southwest meter of the trench, were there were not very many surface rocks. Locus 8 yielded a significant amount of large architectural terracotta with minimal amounts of carbon. After approximately 20 centimeters of excavation several pieces of lightly worn architectural terracotta came to the surface, which were abutting a very large rocks. These pieces were left in situ to explore the extent of the feature. Shortly thereafter Locus 8 was closed since it was discovered that the architectural terracotta were lying flat on top of a new claylike and compacted soil. |
