Comments (Primarily temporal or functional interpretations)
  • British Colonial Period (1763-1783) irrigation system associated with the greater canal system of the New Smyrna Colony.
  • Possibly linkage to Turnbull Colony but no direct only size, depth, and construction indicate canals were built in late 18th to early 19th centuries.
  • Historic canal
  • CANALS WERE CONSTRUCTED BETWEEN 1773 AND 1775. CANALS WERE ORIGINALLY USED FOR AGRICULTURAL IRRIGATION. LATER THESE CANALS WERE USED BY HOMESTEADERS AS DRAINAGE CANAL. THEY ARE STILL BEING USED.
  • Napier 1 was previously interpreted as a remnant of the larger Turnbull Canal System, an irrigation system that historically traversed the New Smyrna Settlement and Thomas Napier land grand during the period of British colonization (1763-1783)....
