Description Locus 24 is a leveling layer containing large unhewn ashlars contained in a Munsell 7.5YR4/4 brown loose soil matrix of fine consistency. While of a different color and consistency than Locus 12 (present at a similar elevation in the south and central caves), the Locus 24 inclusions of large ashlars and minimal small finds indicate a similar period of deposition. Underneath this layer of rubble was found the top of a section of hewn, evenly laid ashlars. Likely an intentional deposit, this feature was left unexcavated in anticipation of a burial or other delicate construction requiring the attention of a specialist.
