Description Locus 9 was opened to explore a rock feature in the northern half of the trench, near the western baulk wall, first visible when the trench was defined as Locus 2. Near this rock feature, a forno fragment was found (see pg 67). The soil of Locus 9 was a medium brown that broke into small chunks, mottled with yellowish brown clay. As it was excavated, it was revealed that the brown soil sloped down to the east, while in the western area of the locus we found sterile pale yellow soil as in Locus 6 and Locus 8. Stopped when it was discovered that the brown soil became more yellow and lay on bedrock. Two more forno fragments were discovered in Locus 9.
