Description | Left side of architctural frieze. Two women, clad in long straight garments which fall to just above the ankles, walk slowly left. They are stiff: the feet are in profile; the left arm hangs rigidly at the side with its hand near the front of the body; the right elbow was held at the side and the forearm protrudes at a 45 degree angle with the body. The heads with thier large eye, nose, and receeding chin resemble the heads in 19660038. These figures are followed by horses who hold their tubular heads high and prance on spindly legs. The fragmentary condition of the friezes makes it impossible to describe the exact number of horses and their positions. However, there are at least two, if not more. Probably, these are drawing a biga. Above, a cavetto crown with moded strigils and studs "quincunx"; below, a guilloche. Nail holes: third strigil from left and under foot of horse. |
Fabric Description | Coarse clay with numerous impurities including stones and mica. Fired reddish orange on exterior, dark on interior. |
