Description |
SU 7110 is under the SW corner of SU 7108, defined by its soil color, but also the large concentration of mortar to the north, which marks southern boundary of SU 7111. It seems that this area lacks the high concentration of packed debris noted in 7109 and 7111. This is clarified once we come down on 7110_f1. Once articulated, it measure 54 cm x 44 cm and appears to be a large, molded gypsum piece. Sarah L interprets it as possibly an overturned window screen, plastered over when the annex was modified for its second phase, and gypsum incl. all common in vicinity, too (4-6 cm). Resting on its northern side is a gypsum plate (revetment?) we will have to excavate further to advance our understanding of this feature and its surroundings. But since it takes up most of the SU, can explain the lack of debris as found in 7109 and 7111. This is not to say there is no debris—the quanity is simply lower, but we have recovered tile and mortar still and sandstone frags (8-12cm). 7110 is closed arbitrarily per excavation manual guideline. Addendum 16/6/09: This is a reused pier, bonded to 7112_f1. See page 24.5 of this notebook. Bottom Elevations E: 7.26 SW: 7.26 N: 7.27 7110_f1: 7.36 m |
