Architectural or Soil Locus? | Soil |
Stage Description | 2nd period of reuse: burning. Either a squatter settlement or an industrial installation. |
Description | This soil is a 5 YR 4/2 (Dark Reddish Gray) color. Localized loose ashy lens, relatively thick, in center of trench concentrated in area over the north south staircase from the adytus maximus to diazoma (Locus 12) and the rows of stones (Locus 8). It clearly represents a second, later phase of reuse, though in what capacity is uncertainrelatively little artifactual material was recovered, except for burned pieces of ashy gray mortar. Perhaps mortar was being collected and burned here for lime, but it is difficult to be sure. |
