ID | 1318 |
ACCESSION NUMBER | 20 1760 |
FIELD NUMBER | 13 12 266 |
SUBJECT | scaraboid |
DESCRIPTION | The oval-shaped scaraboid is pierced lengthwise. On the back, carefully polished, any details are depicted. On the oval-shaped base is reproduced a stylized human figure deep engraving. This latter depicted a seated figure, with outstretched arms touching the contour line of the seal. It should show the schematized neck of the panthers that we find in the determinative of Cusae, although this always appears standing and with administrative titles. The material used is certainly atypical for the seals attested in Kerma and it is therefore difficult to determine its origin. The object could, therefore, be of local, Egyptian or Levantine origin. |
