Description | The West Precinct Walls west face, including its foundation, was uncovered in SP110 abutting the Cistern-Reservoir Locus 28 lower north wall. It appears to be a ten-course sandstone wall that was constructed in two stages, because its south face is considerably different from its north face as if it, the north face, was at one time compromised and reconstruction had to take place. It is no wonder, because this wall was the principal support system for the water emanating from the Ain Brak water source and the Cistern-Reservoir to various areas of the Great Temple precinct. It was essential that it be maintained and kept in repair. As a continuation of bedrock supporting it to its south, this wall provided the Great Temple precinct with a sturdily constructed west face. The base of the wall rests on large unworked ashlars resting on bedrock. The height of the base is 0.55 m and six courses are well built primarily with stretchers and to a lesser degree, headers.
