Condition | Broken across top of strigils, base extension, to left of rosette, and to right of spout. Left side of rosette and right ear of spout broken off. Traces of red and white paint |
Description | The rosette has fingermarks around the knob in the center. The spout has large bulging eyes, a small nose, and a pentagonal mouth with fangs connecting the jaws. The entire sima seems to have been covered with a purplish slip, and painted over this with white in places. The exterior of the rosette has a white band at the base; the rest probably was red. The flat front edge preserves white. The inside preserves traces of white on the center knob and on alternate petals. The bottom of the spout was white. There are traces of white on the fangs, eye sockets, between the ears, and perhaps in the ears. Traces of white on some strigils. On the bottom of the base there are traces of white and parallel shallow incised lines, probably for a meander. |
Fabric Description | Coarse clay with bits of stone fired orange-brown. |
