Phase Description
Top (m) Opening elevation: 908.156 m at northwest, 908.116 m at center, 908.256 m at southwest, 908.516 m at southeast.
Stage Description Major collapse and accumulation of debris over the Central Arch cavity. Continued deposition of wind-blown fill beginning in Site Phase X.
Size Dimensions: 2.80 m (north-south)-x-3.23 m (east-west).
Description This locus, a 5YR 4/4 reddish brown, loose, moist sand, was opened in order to define the relationship between the north, east and west walls (Loci 3, 2 and 4, respectively). The pottery collection was small, but there was one decorative architectural piece found within the fill (P/ST 27037 — pomegranate), which is interesting because of the depth at which it was found (* -1.68 m below Datum 10) and the fact that it was under such a massive accumulation of arch collapse. Also found were many small limestone chips which would have been used as chinking stones for the Arch.
