Description | The left shoulder and upper arm of a large seated statue akroterion i.e. 19670411 which preserves the seated lower body and forearms of such a statue. This fragment joins with 19670411A (upper left thigh) along its lower break and with 19670411B(lap wth right and left forearms) where broken away from the body mass the elbow. The arm has broken away from the body mass with the curved shoulder separated at its point of attachment to the separately molded body mass (see scar along edge vs. a rough break), for a distance of approximately 0.045 m down the arm. From that point down the lateral breaks preserve a portion of the thinner walled body from which the arm stood out in relief. The arm is clad in a smooth sleeve which hangs down to mask the elbow as a flattened rectangular mass; it is broken across horizontally at the point where it curves in to join the upper thigh. From the wide and generously rounded shoulder the sleeve hangs down vertically in back, curving in front to follow the line of the inner arm, cut off below across the curve of the inner elbow. The rounded back corner at the elbow is slightly chipped but preserved in outline. The surface though worn preserves traces of white slip over all, particularly along the front and back edges of the arm proper following the indentation where it joins the body; the indented body surface preserves little or no slip. |
