Field Description Very complex sample. Hard to compact, massive, clay silt with abundant Manganese stains that pre-date, pinkish chalky phosphate coats (variscite??) and irregular vein fillings. Dark brown, with charcoal, opal seed coats and more clayey. Seems to surround redder Mn-rich zone and could be trampled hearth.
THIN SECTION Observations Lots of clay/silt, charcoal and seed coats. Blob phosphate abundant and some vein filling of opaque material (silica?). No variscite; some seed coats show clay (quartz) birefringence.
