Description | Locus 9 extended throughout the 1x3 north eastern extension of T-66 and sloped downward from west to east. The locus consisted of dark brown, grass and root filled soil that also contained small and large stumps measuring between 5-15 centimeters. The soil of the locus contained large amounts of pottery and heavy amounts of larger architectural terracotta. Most of the artifacts recovered from this locus were mostly abraded indicating that materials may have eroded into this stratum. Most of the material recovered from this locus date to the Archaic period although given how heavily abraded the artifacts are, and the fact that the area encompassing this extension was a dump for a previously excavated trench, the locus has been deemed non-contextual. There are no notable geological or architectural features associated with the locus. Locus 9 is topsoil and is equivalent with Locus 1, Locus 3, Locus 5, Locus 8 and Locus 11. |
