Description |
Locus 54 consists of a yellowish-colored soil deposit positioned at the base of the Locus 47 cut. It is olive to yellow in color, with some patches of more grayish soil, generally claylike in texture, although some patches are flakier, and moderately compacted. Locus 54 apparently is galestra, a naturally occurring deposit. No material culture was visible in Locus 54, reinforcing our interpretation of this deposit as natural and geological. The rectangular cut of Locus 47 terminated at the upper surface of Locus 54. Locus 54 was not excavated and left intact, in situ. It is situated in the southwestern quadrant of the trench, and stratigraphically is positioned beneath the Locus 47 cut. Locus 51 overlay Locus 54. Locus 54 also is equivalent to Locus 35, excavated in 2022. |
