Catalog ID Note | Fine Impasto Vessel Foot Fragment |
Size | max. pres. height: 0.02015m; max. pres. width: 0.03973m; max. pres. thickness: 0.00505m; approx. diam. of base: 0.05000m |
Condition | Fragment is broken and chipped round the base as well as around the tondo. Fragment is worn, pitted, abraded, and encrusted. |
Description | A fine impasto low foot fragment which also preserves the tondo, or attachment to the vessel body. The bottom edge of the base is rounded. The rough center point of the interior of the foot at the underside of the vessel body is slightly raised, probably from the trimming process. The interior and exterior of the foot flare outwards in concert from the center of the base. The foot is approx. 0.01237m high. Where the foot attaches to the body, the tondo, the vessel is at its narrowest, an approx. diam. of 0.03121m. The upper face of the tondo preserves the interior of the vessel body, including roughly parallel lines which are slightly indented or faceted and probably indicate something used to smooth the vessel interior. |
