Size | max. pres. length: 0.02371m; max. pres. width: 0.00847m; max. pres. thickness: 0.00322m |
Condition | Fragment is broken through the body of the fibula. Oxidized, corroded, and lightly encrusted. |
Description | A fragment of bronze fibula of the leech type preserving a portion of the catch plate and portion of the leech body. The catch plate has an irregular trapezoidal shape, with max. pres. length of 0.01443m, max. pres. height of 0.00781m, min. pres. height of 0.00372m, and max. pres. thickness of 0.00155m. The exterior of the catch plate is smoothly finished and curving in a convex fashion. The interior is more corroded and concavely curving in an almost "U" shape. From the max. pres. height edge of the catch plate, the fragment comes up into the partially preserved leech shaped body (the point of connection is the max. pres. thickness). The interior of the leech body is broken in such a way to reveal that it has a convex, hollow interior with a somewhat oval shape which tapers towards the point of connection. The exterior of the fragmentary leech body has nine lines preserved which are roughly parallel to one another and cut across the leech in a perpendicular fashion to the now broken edges. Max. pres. length of a line: 0.00798m, min. pres. length of a line: 0.00253m, and distance between two lines about 0.00078m. |
