Description |
A fragment of worked stone with a rectangular prism shape preserving portions of five worked faces. The parallel longer faces have been worked in a rough fashion before the fragment is broken transversely on a diagonal through them. Two of the three edges perpendicular to them are well preserved and demonstrate marks from a claw chisel. On one face these marks run parallel to the longer faces, while on the face directly adjacent and perpendicular the grooves run diagonally toward a roughly perpendicular deeper indentation; the indentation is 0.036 m in length and a max. pres. width of 0.005 m and paralleled by a second indentation of the slightly smaller dimensions (0.029 m in length, 0.004 m in width). 0.021 m from these indents is a raised portion which arcs slightly (with a max. pres. diameter of 0.026 m) to the object's edge. The final perpendicular faces is the least well preserved because it is largely broken, but appears to be roughly finished with no evidence of claw chisel or other tool marks. Stone type unknown (possibly pietra fetida?), but not native to Poggio Civitate. |
