Size Fragment A--max. pres. length: 0.03971m; max. pres. width: 0.02957m; max. pres. thickness: 0.00910 Fragment B--max. pres. length: 0.03132m; max. pres. width: 0.02359m; max. pres. thickness: 0.00598m Fragment C--max. pres. length: 0.03451m; max. pres. width: 0.01951m; max. pres. thickness: 0.00802m
Condition Fragment A has one cut edge, but all other edges of it and all fragments are ancient breaks. Fragments are worn, abraded, and heavily encrusted. Fragment A consolidated from two pieces. Fragment B consolidated from two pieces.
Description Three fragments of associated antler, including one fragment (A) with a cut edge with incisions in its cut face. Fragment A is composed of an exterior and interior face of raw antler, three ancient break edges, and one cut edge. The antler has been cut transversely, against the grain of the antler. The first incision, adjacent to a roughly perpendicular break edge, appears to be at least on a diagonal if not formerly part of a curve. It begins in the break edge and slants upwards towards the exterior face of the antler a length of 0.00290m. Overlapping at the upward slanting corner of the first incision is the second. The second incision is the clearest and deepest and is that of an 'X' shape with one bar 0.00407m in length and the other 0.00359m. The two bars go all the way to the edge of the face perpendicular to the interior face of the antler. Along that same edge, 0.00430m from the edge of the second incision is the third. It is a line which arcs back towards the 'X' shaped incision 0.006m in length. 0.00339m along the edge of the face perpendicular to the interior face of the antler from the third incision is the fourth. It slants or curves in the same direction as incision three, but is not parallel to it. The fourth incision is 0.00458m in length. There are three more slight indentations on the cut face which almost look like incisions, but may not be. Fragment B and C also preserve the raw antler interior and exterior faces, but all edges are broken. Fragments A and B are roughly flat, while Fragment C is convex along the exterior face and slightly concave along the interior.
