Description Locus 7 is the soil layer directly below the topsoil layer in the 2nd extension on CA-80. The soil is the yellowish, clay like soil that begins with many small rocks and gradually loses the rock inclusions. The amount of material in this locus is substantially more than that in locus 6 and the material itself is finer and less eroded. a packing of small rocks begins in the northern meter and extends through the northern meter of the trench. at this time it is uncertain what the function of the rock feature is, and whether or not it is architectural. it appears to connect to the rock line/packing from locus 4 and 5. On July 22 2013, Locus 7 was paused in order to extend south into the 3rd extension for CA-80. The extension hopes to clarify the rock packing found in the north of the 2nd extension and to shed light on the large flat rock in the southern baulk wall of the 2nd extension, along the 34S line. the pausing elevations can be found on page 79.
