Description Locus 10 is a course of limestone and sandstone blocks underlying and serving as part of the foundation for the East Wall. The limestone blocks abut the South Wall, extend approximately one-third the distance from the South Wall to the bench and are at a higher level than the floor bedding. The sandstone elements extend the remaining distance to the bench and are at approximately the same level as the floor bedding. Because of the difference in height of this locus, the bottom course of the East Wall is stepped up at its south extent. A layer of plaster remains in situ on the outer face of the southernmost block of the string course and extends below the level of the floor bedding. The fact that the East Wall was apparently built around this locus and the observation that the plaster continues below the level of the floor indicates both that this installation is relatively early and that the aforementioned wall and floor are later. This locus may represent part of an earlier installation associated with both the Corridor/Room and the Lower Temenos, such as a staircase (see Discussion).
Underlies Locus 4 (East Wall).
