DESCRIPTION | The oval-shaped scarab is pierced lengthwise. The back is represented in a very schematic way. The clypeus and the triangular-shaped head are depicted and are separated from the prothorax by a transverse line. The oval base is surrounded by an engraved linear frame, inside which is a human figure with a falcon's head. The head and legs are depicted in profile and the torso frontally. The figure wears a triangular-shaped kilt, tied at the waist and is represented standing on a neb sign. In front of him is a crocodile. In what has been interpreted as a greeting gesture, the man has his left arm raised next to the animal's head and his right arm stretched along the body. This iconography is dated to the Egyptian XII Dynasty. |
