Condition | Glued from six fragments. Broken on almost all sides and edges. Abraded and worn. Hat is broken vertically through center of peak. If it indeed had a pointed peak, this would imply that it was deliberately split. |
Description | Solid terracotta fragment is apparently part of a large hat originally set on a statue. Lower contour of fragment is rounded, preserving part of a curving, up-turned finished edge. The upper portion is a broken, rounded cone shape forming a tall peak in the center of the hat. Bottom or interior surface has large, rough depression in center ending in a narrow, vertical hole extending through peak. This bottom surface is a round, rough scar for attachment to a head. |
