Architectural or Soil Locus? Soil
Description Painted, plaster lens in the southwestern and southern areas of the trench east of Locus 3. Nicely painted in several colors, especially blue and purple, but including white, orange, yellow, green, black and red. Mostly thick lines of different colors, but one unusual design was also found. The plaster was flat, but oriented both facing up and facing down. Mostly under the painted plaster was Locus 20, a rougher plaster layer which may have served as bedding for the painted layer. Some of Locus 20 was above the painted plaster. Due to the orientation of the plaster itself and its location with respect to Locus 20, the plaster probably fell off of a plastered wall surface into the trench. The plaster is located at the same elevation as other plaster fall from other areas of the trench (near Loci 3 and 15), indicating there may have been a catastrophic event which knocked the plaster off at this time in the stratigraphy.
