Description Locus 8 was initially declared to identify the so-called "circular rock feature" which appeared in the SW corner of the north half of the trench. It is located to the south of Locus 7, west of Locus 6, and north of the backfill in the southern half of the trench which was later declared Locus 10. It sits under Locus 5 and part of Locus 6 and it sits on top of Locus 11. It extends into the W baulk, where the rocks made baulk trimming difficult. Since it was not a soil feature, Munsell readings were not taken. The presence of modern barbed wire in the W baulk stratigraphically under Locus 8 confirms that these rocks are not an ancient feature but rather part of the backfill from an earlier trench, probably one of the trenches from Tesoro 6. Since the rocks were backfill, no closing elevations were taken when Locus 11 was declared, but the opening elevations of Locus 11 can be consulted for an idea of the depth of the trench at the closing of Locus 8.
