Description | A compact brown soil (Munsell 7.5 YR 5/4) which is mixed with a number of small stones and large ashlars, next to the north boundary of the sondage. The soil is compacted and coarse and does not ball. It is clearly intended to provide extra support in the construction build-up for the floor. There were some stucco inclusions including black, red and multicolored pieces. The ceramics remains were utilitarian ware. |
