Condition Base fragment preserves part of bottom rim and small portion of bottom wall of vessel. Indented bottom exterior surface preserves a deliberate incision. Bottom and sides chipped; resting surface and all broken edges abraded.
Description Base of a heavy, round-bodied vessel; center of bottom is indented and roughly circluar as is the resting edge of the base. Smooth, matte black surface of bottom has incised chi sign: a rough V intersected by a straight line--here the incision covers more than just the central depression of base. Letter height 0.051 m, width 0.039 m.
