Phase | IV |
Description | A terracing course of nearly flat wadi/field stones, with a few small boulders. It was tightly laid without mortar. It bonds with the rubble foundation construction of Locus 25 (the ashlar courses of Wall Locus 22 commence above the level of Locus 9). The stratum was laid to abut Wall Locus 5, at the top of the third course up from the bottom. These associations with defined courses/levels in the surrounding wall constructions¾Middle Pier Wall (Tr. 97, 2004, Locus 11) and the east west wall (Locus 5) at the junction of the W CP East with the West Propylaeum¾suggest that this is the uppermost stone stratum that can be considered as structural terracing (see Interpretation below). |
