Description | String course of rough faced stone, running under the main architecture of the exedra. Only the north face of this feature has been exposed, in the northeast and northwest corners of the exedra, and the eastern part of the string course seems to have sunk significantly lower than the level of the west. Also, the late "bench" built up against the base of the exedra apse obscures almost all of the string course in this area. Where it is best exposed, on the west, it seems to have been cut into to create a "step," perhaps as a guide for the laying of a floor (now gone). |
