Description | Because it rests on dressed bedrock, the cistern floor is sturdy. There is however some patching and re-plastering episodes (0.02-0.03 m in thickness) that have taken placeone such patch is in its northeast corner. Of interest is the slope or curb created in both the southwest and northeast bottom corners. And these corners are rounded-off instead of being squared off. This sloping conforms to the bedrock underneath which was purposefully carved to round out the base of the Cistern-Reservoir so that it could better support the water pressure. There is a small built-up stand in the northwest corner, which perhaps served for drawing water. We have elected to place the floor in a later site phase due to a renovation of its surface, which is assumed to have taken place after its original construction. |
