Bag Description | flat oval ceramic bead with 'fluted' openings on both ends. Hand formed with wobbly surface and finger prints in fired clay. Darker areas of surface appear to be uniformly burnished, as though from use rather than decoration. These darker, burnished areas are primarily along the length of the bead and at the ridge on both obverse and reverse. Damaged areas: old scratches and chips on obverse and reverse; one small 'old' chip from dark end and a larger chip from the lighter end--this latter chip causes a dip on the obverse and reverse sides of the lip, perhaps intentionally formed as a notch for securing string. Munsell exterior 2.5Y 5/2 grayish brown burned (?) areas of exterior 5YR 2.5/1 black DRAWING DONE; NEEDS TO BE SCANNED IN OR LINKED TO DB |
Has note | Finds Bags, or KT bags, are groups of artifacts of the same material composition excavated from a locus. Each finds bag may contain a number of finds but finds are always separated by material. Thus, ceramics, bones and lithics excavated from the same locus were given separate numbers and were collected in separate bags. A special category is the "small find," which could be of any material. Small finds are generally speaking rare or exceptional finds such as figurines, loom weights, andirons or worked bone tools. Small finds are given separate numbers and are bagged separately. Finds bags could consist of only one plastic bag of material and could only be excavated on a single day. |
