Catalog ID Note | Slipped Pan Tile Fragment with Finger Impression |
Size | max. pres. length: 0.13218m; max. pres. width: 0.07186m; max. pres. height: 0.01888m |
Condition | Worn and encrusted. Broken on three edges. One ancient tool or break mark on the slipped surface. |
Description | A fragment of pan tile which is both slipped and preserves a finger impression. One long face of the object is finished, while the opposite parallel face is unfinished. One edge preserves a finished edge of the pan tile (one of the edges perpendicular to where the flanges would be). The other three edges are broken, the one opposite the finished edge almost straight, but the other two perpendicular to it are are irregular. The finished face preserves evidence of slip which is a reddish color in contrast to the orange of the tile. Through the slipped surface an arcing finger impression has been made. The arc of the impression would have formed a circle with an approximate diameter of 0.12m were it a full circle (there is no suggestion that it was, however). |
