Description | The face of the ivory head has been entirely sheared off except for the outside corner of the left eye and brow, both of which picked out in incision. What remains of the head is primarily the hair. It hangs down from the center of the head in radiating carved lines and is bound by a thin tight fillet across the forehead. The hair over the brow terminates in bangs; to the sides it falls in thick masses of several strands, Daedelic style. There is some crimping to indicate curly hair. Presumably the piece broke before completion as the hair on the top of the head is unfinished. The back of the head is flat, probably on purpose as there are rasp marks. |
