Field Description | Collected sample from immediately laterally adjacent to Hay-99-358 since that sample broke up a bit while being wrapped. 99-359 is more intact. Sediment is dark brown (7.5YR 4/4) silt with intercalations of white calcium carbonate. These seem larger and more extensive than in 99-58. Red TR balls are common but bone and charcoal are exceedingly rare. Consolidation within this zone was variable. In some spots I could only dig through with a hammer and chisel. In other areas I could easily cut through with a trowel. This gave the sediment a tendency to crumble into clods and made it harder to collect a 10 mm sample. |
