Description Collapse of the massive elements of the exedra entablature, located just in front of the north face and mouth of the exedra in a band approx. 10 m long and 3 m wide. Several fragments of limestone and sandstone pediment moldings were found many with well-preserved profiles and features that can help determine original location. Most important, the two "wedge-shaped" pieces that would have formed the corners of the pediment were recovered, placed just as if they had fallen from the corner walls where the north face of the exedra turns into the mouth of the apse. Initial evidence including curved elements suggests that a broken (open) segmental pediment graced this structure; if this is indeed true, the East Exedra of the Great Temple ranks as one of the few freestanding structures at Petra for which we have strong evidence regarding the form of its entablature. Note that this locus was named after excavation, and the elevations are based on the findspots of the aforementioned corner pieces.
