Description Locus 1 is indentified as top soil and is made up of a dark brown soil that is rich with organic material, such as roots from the many tree stumps and the living tree contained within the trench. Locus 1 soil is dry and has a clay-like consistency. There are some larger rocks present in the locus. Very little terracotta is found in locus 1, and no pottery other than the fragment of medieval pottery is discovered. A small bronze disc is found in the southwestern corner of the trench in locus 1, and it is cataloged (catalog #20120015). The area of locus 1 covers the entirety of the trench.
