Description | Foundation of ancient building cut into and exposed by gravel road. On the South and North are low terrace walls. This road was cut into the foundations of building. This is a discrete feature visible entirely within the modern gravel road, though it once extended beyond into the fields to the South and North. Little can be determined from the ceramics found nearby as they are presumably not in situ. The feature marks the stone foundation of a building. Two long walls form part of a structure 8.65 meters at its longest point; 2.7 meters long is longest portion of wall. Each of long wall segments is 70 cm thick, composed of a mixture of cut stone and field stone of various sizes (5 x 5 cm to 50 x 30 cm). West wall angle is 20 degrees, East wall is at 296 degree orientation. If extended northward, they would form a corner. Only the southern portion of the East wall is preserved. Near the East wall, and in between the two walls, lies a square cluster of stones that seem to be related--not part of the wall but possibly rockfall. In the North section near the road edge there is some decayed plaster of unknown date. This LOCA is located on the North side of a dirt road running East-West from the first junction of the paved road running East. To the North is an olive grove and to the South a line of olive trees and a grain stubble field. |
