Giza AERA Project

Excavations at the settlements of the Old Kingdom pyramid builders

Project Abstract

Overview:

The Ancient Egypt Research Associates (AERA) conduct rigorous archaeological fieldwork and laboratory science to explore the emergence of the ancient Egyptian state and document life in the Pyramid Age through archaeological excavations of urban sites at the Giza Plateau and sites across Egypt.

The AERA team surveys, maps, excavates, and analyzes archaeological sites, and then they use this data to reconstruct both the ancient landscape and the everyday lives of the Egyptians who built and administered the Giza pyramids, temples, and the Sphinx.

AERA believes that no excavation is complete until the research is made public. They fully archive all of their excavation data, and share their research through academic and popular publications, and the online publication of their data.
