Description | Three fragments of an inscribed bucchero vessel preserving portions of a straight sided conical foot. Frag. A preserves decoration on the exterior in three registers. At the bottom, there is an incised line running laterally about 0.006m above the finished edge of the base. Above the incised lines is a row of a downward pointing, double lotus palmette chain. Three whole palmettes are preserved, as well as portions of two others. One of the fully preserved palmettes is irregularly shaped. The two lines of the chain do not meet at the palmette but meet much lower, so the lines meet the palmette along the sides of the palmette head, not the base. Also, there are no lateral projections to this palmette head. The third register is another incised line running laterally. Above the third incised line is a fragmentary inscription consisting of a digamma and an alpha as well as portions of two other letters. Frags. B and C also preserve portions of the lowest incised line as well as portions of the palmette chain: Frag. B preserve portions of two palmettes, Frag. C portions of one. |
