Description | Statuette is long, thin, truncated elliptical bone solid with blunt, slightly rounded top, flat bottom with wide irregular hole in it, and rounded sides. Back is smooth, plain surface and almost flat; front is slightly convex and has some simple carving - a face is formed by deep grooves, flat across the top and the narrower bottom, and tapering on sides to from elongated trapezoid. Lines of sides of face continue down beyond flat chin to form a rounded point, with left line overlapping the right and continuing down the length of the fragment to approximately 0.014 m above the bottom - this gives the appearance of a fully wrapped mantle, without any other modelling. Carving of face: small pointed, almond-shaped incisions form eyes; nose is straight horizontal groove set above rounded parallel ridge of chin. |
