Description | Almost rectangular fragment preserves portion of back of neck of statue - top and bottom edges are arbitrary; rendering of the piece is extremely geometrical, with the main edges and angles being straight. The back of the hair is a flat surface with two straight sides, apparently part of a shaft-like structure, now broken at top and bottom; the edges of this section form right angles with the two sides, which apparently extended out to form the neck, but are now broken off even with the flat back section, the "left" side extends even with the back for approximately 0.018 m, and then the surface is slightly recessed, giving the appearance of a rectangular edge; the "right" side forms a right angle with the back but the surface then becomes slightly concave with one very shallow, diagonal, groove on the "lower" part of the piece - presumably both sides show the very rough modeling of masses of hair falling vertically down the sides of the neck. The interior surfaces are rough and appear to be flat, horizontal ridges of clay. |
