Description | Fragment of a bucchero handle, curving and broken above at joint to vase. The exterior surface is adorned with a molded plaque showing a seated human figure in relief, probably a man. He is seen in profile facing left. The head bears a long pointed nose, a finely incised almond-shaped eye with depressed iris and pupil in relief an incision representing the hairline, and a roundish chin. The upper arm drops vertically from the shoulder, bending at the elbow, then is held out horizontally while resting on the thigh. It is outlined by incision. the hand clutches a staff with a finial fleur-de-lis. The back of the chair on which the figure sits, the two separated by incision is topped by a swirl. |
