Description | Sherd of heavy vessel with a slight curve. Molded decoration of a sphinx, whose chest, neck, parts of head, wing and leg are preserved. A curving groove marks bottom of wing and back side of front leg. Round, heavy chest and upturned head not set off by such deep divisions. Long hair has thin grooves around back of head for a hairband, and falls to the level of the wing. Modeling was originally more detailed, but now worn away. |
