Took photographs with bipod.  TOday, continuing 5cmcut, moving from south to north.  The soil has a bit more clay content, but there is no clear soil change yet.  The fragments will be packed up as we go along.

Continued ot push the 5cm cut to the north, almost completed.  The spread was composed of mainly terracotta tile fragments, some pieces of coarseware pottery, and a number of large rocks.  Many of the rocks were found above and mixed with the tile, suggesting that the whole assemblage is washed down from somewhere.  Since many pieces are not severly eroded, it seems they did not travel far.  Note that a number of large roots are growing beneath the assemblage, so these pieces are probably not in any primary context.

The bulk terracotta is mainly pan tiles with some small curved pieces which could be fragments of cover tile or large vessels.  The pottery is mainly black and grey impasto and some low fired coarse orange potter as well.  A few pieces of dark black

bucchero like pottery and two small pieces of orangeware/creamware were found.  Some bone and teeth fragments as well.

The south side of the trench continues to be relatively sterile.  No significant soil change is evident, this Locus 3 seems to correspond to the Locus 3 in the previous trench.  Note that hte floor of both trenches now corresponds to the "floor level" on which the tile spreads were found.

A few carbonized fragments and some pieces that look like plaster were found.

Pottery and bone: 1/4 latte box

Terracotta: 1/6 cassette
