Excavation contineud on the 4 metre strip B-I 18-21. The area north of D was cleaned to reveal the underlying deposit. At H18 a fragment of statue leg was found. In the area of D20 an almost complete plaque of banquet frieze was found to which two pieces from the previous day were joined.

Lateral sima fragment head
In this area (C&D 20) there were also found many fragments of lateral sima including one well-preserved head.

A cast of one of the large pieces of banquet frieze was made. 6 boxes of tiles were dumped. A great deal of pottery and many bones and teeth were also present in this layer.

Work was continued in the cut N-S 6-beta along the N edge, that is grid N-O. The third layer produced a vast number of very small fragments of procession frieze. Some of them showed very clear and sharp impressions, but a few were in a crumbling state of preservation. Fragments of lateral sima were found, the most conspicuous being a waterspout head. A few sherds and bones. 1 box of tiles was dumped. In the afternoon fragments of rosette were found in T6E. P3.

Work was continued with the object of clearing the row of curved terracotta pieces (a drain pipe?). The dirt immediately to the E of this produced a vast number of sherds of all fabrics. Two full boxes have been gathered since the trench was started. The second and third layer were taken off from the rest of the trench. Stones became visible in line with the N and S walls from the adjacent trench T6D. These will have to be cleared further. The number of tiles increased and also the size of the pieces. 3 boxes were dumped in the morning. The extension of the drain pipe (?) and the relation
to the wall will have to be clarified further.
By the end of the afternoon the entire lenght of the pipe which had been cleaned measured 6,10 m _ _ the most notherly point being in grid D1, and the most southerly being in J1.
Four more boxes of tiles were dumped. Work was interrupted in order that the photographer might record the pipe for posterity, etc., etc.
