Final Trench Summary for CA46
The purpose of excavating trench CA46 during summer 2000 was to explore the area fro occupation evidence in the forms of habitation or industrial production. Due to the paucity of material from this trench, neither of these possibilities are supportable. The overwhelmingly large amount of worn impasto and terracotta, the dearth of other materials, and all being located against a natural rock formation indicate that erosion is the most likely culprit for the presence of this material in this location rather than by some ancient hand. The lack of material or featural relationship to the well, forni, or middens also supports this claim. Since the soil beneath locus 1 was sterile, it was decided to close the trench. For more information on associated trenches for this season (CA43, CA44, CA45, and CA47), see trench books ACL I , PN I , MCC I , and KLH I .
