STRATEGY: To continue excavating 1501, which lies beneath 1500.

SUMMARY: 1501 contains ceramic, bone and flint. Also fragments of grinding stone and roof tile. It is fairly homogenous and soft with small patches of more compact, blocky soil, particularly in the NW corner (which could be the remains of the plough zone soil, lot 1500, reaching down into 1501 in places). Encrusted pottery and crystaline stone indicative of soil formation. 2 small finds include a coin and a pierced stone fragment. Also large fist sized rock with a plaster (?) lined depression in the surface: could be a type of grinding stone? Not saved.
